Cherry Blossoms and Spring Blooms at the Toronto Botanical Gardens and Edward Gardens
Nature is waking up after a long winters slumber. The burst of colour from spring blooms all around this wonderful city of Toronto epitomise it as one of the best cities to live in. This post is for those of you who have missed all the spring exuberance during these trying times of Covid 19 restrictions. Spring blooms are in full glory at the Toronto Botanical Gardens and the adjacent Edwards Gardens. You can see not only cherry trees in bloom but also magnolia, daffodils, tulips, hyacinth and gorgeous forsythia and many others basking in the gentle sun of spring. It is quite a wondrous experience walking around these gardens in spring. The vibrant colours and the gentle ever changing smell of their fragrance as you walk through the different areas captivates the mind and eases the soul.
Even though the gardens do not have the full glory of previous years no doubt due to Covid 19 restrictions they still have the unkempt wild feel to them that in no way detracts from their beauty. Watch the video below if you want to directly see the cherry blossoms than go to 17:10 minutes on the scroll bar but you’ll miss the other equally worthy blooms. I hope you watch the whole video.
The Entry Garden walk to the gardens was designed by the renowned Dutch garen designer and plantsman Piet Oudolf. The walk is his first project in Canada and is inspired by the New Wave Planting style using bold drifts of perennials and grasses, punctuated with shrubs and trees. The plants are carefully selected for their architectural form and texture, as well as autumn colour and winter silhouette, thus taking precedence over flower colour but no less beautiful in spring and summer.
The plants have been carefully selected over three years and allowed to grow and seed naturally for three years to form a very sophisticated and artistic meadow. Spring-flowering bulbs have been planted, adding to the interest of this garden. Bulbs have been chosen to naturalize in the garden, including daffodils, tulips, crocus, hyacinth, tulips and fritillary.
