Morningside Park Summer 2020
Summer is almost here. What better way is there to enjoy Canada’s brief but vibrant summers than visiting the many parks in Toronto. We visited Morningside Park located in Toronto’s Scarborough area. The park is part of a glacial valley cut through by Highland Creek. It is home to a variety of wildlife including salmon, trout, bass, carp, deer, racoons and different bird species like ducks, geese and hawks.
Morningside Park is the largest municipal park. It is easily accessible by public transport using TTC buses. The park is mostly urban wilderness and has large forested areas. Currently we saw during our visit that new paths were being created skirting highland creek that should give easier access to more areas of the park. Salmon runs occur in highland Creek every autumn and it is a good place to see it up close during the Autumn months. Check out the video below for some more views.
We managed to see a racoon perched up in a tree just near the entrance of the park. A deer crossed our path too. And a family of groundhogs went about their business in the undergrowth as we stood enjoying the views. We paid the place a visit last autumn and were pleasantly surprised to see salmon making their way up the creek. There are more waterfalls on the creek unfortunately we could not visit these because of renovation work in the park. Hopefully at some point in the future the water quality can be improved even further creating a pristine environment for wildlife to thrive in. Here are some more images for you to enjoy:
One can easily spend the day enjoying nature or hunting for fossils in the park. Skirting the river we came across some cascades and waterfalls in the park which were nice to enjoy. You can hear the water in many places from the path that goes through the park. It is always refreshing to know that Toronto has such natural parks right within the city!
This my amazing Canada!!!
