South Humber Park Summer Review

South Humber Park, Humber Bay Arch Bridge view along the river walkway

Take a short tour of South Humber Park in Etobicoke Toronto. The Park has a little bit of everything, some hilly wooded areas, wild meadow areas, marshes that skirt the humber river. It joins with the discovery trails and ends at Sheldons viewing point just south of the Humber Bay Arch Bridge. There are some interesting views of Lake Ontario and the downtown Toronto skyline in the distance over the lake. It is good for walking, cycling and jogging and the Humber River that skirts the park is great for canoeing and kayaking. Fishing is also a great thing on the river here and in autumn the salmon run can be viewed further up the river. Wildlife in the area includes many bird species, waterfowl such as geese swans, ducks are abundant particularly around the marshes. There are many species of fish that inhabit the waters surrounding this park. The southern end of South Humber Park is where the humber river flows in to lake Ontario. Here there are some excellent views to be seen of the lake and surrounding skyline. The Humber Bay Arch Bridge is quite an icon for the area. The walkway that extends from the park skirts the Humber river and is arched by overhanging trees that give it quite a picturesque view.

If you can quietly enter the marshes you will be able to catch some waterfowl foraging for food and basically doing duck like things. There are probably some nesting sites around this area too but it is best not to approach them so not to disturb the birds.

Overall South Humber Park is perhaps not one of those parks that will really wow you. But keep in mind this is located in the urban sprawl of Toronto. It has a bit of everything nature, murals, marshes hills and of course a shoreline that is quite nice.
